Each person attending has particular requirements. Philip listens and helps you draw out of yourself pertinent factors that influence the kind of therapy to assist you.

The counselling you will experience occurs in the here-and-now. Fully functioning in the present, allowing the past to be and the future to be possible allows you to truly experience the real truths of this world: what is happening now is all there is to worry about.

This is not a “be happy at any costs” philosophy… it is a realistic understanding of the true nature of being.

Therapeutic counselling offered for…

self-esteem and assertiveness counselling; Relationship building and maintaining; drug and alcohol assistance; pre-marriage and pre-relationship counselling; anxiety, stress and depression counselling and therapy; sexual identitiy, functioning and intimacy enhancment; sexuality isuues, heterasexual and homosexual; spiritual and existential issues counselling.

In many cases and for many people, these issues overlap, mingle and confuse… one of the most important processes in counselling is developing a strategy to deal with the whole while looking and resolving the particular.

Often once one issue is resolved, others may emerge. It is important therefore not to rush. You will be encouraged to work at your own pace. Sessions may be weekly, fortnightly monthly or once or twice a year. You will determine this.

The counselling offered here at the choosingchange rooms takes your position as central. You are and you must always be the expert in your life.

Visiting me and experiencing the counselling process is a temporary time in your life. My job is to get you out of this process as soon as possible. Your task is to learn new and more effictive ways to do this work on your own; hopefully with the support I give you and that of your friends and family and collegues, you will carry on the therapeutic process for the rest of your life.

choosingchange theory

My lifetime of experience supporting my education and training in counselling and psychotherapy(individual, relationship and marriage), helps me give you an edge that allows you to be the expert in your life — a safe, professional environment to consider options toward choosing changes in your life.

Change occurs only when you want it; when you know what is happening and have some resources to do it differently. Counselling and psychological therapy is about gaining knowledge about yourself in order to better operate in the world. This can sometimes be about a specific issue, or more generally about the whole of your life.

Functioning well in the world of relationships (family, friends, loved ones, work colleagues…) makes life easier and exciting. This gives you a sense of wellbeing.

Understanding how you operate, what are your ways of seeing things, as well as having an understanding of how other people operate, means you are going to be better equipped to cope if you find yourself in difficult situations.
